TANSEN SUMMERY


Tansen is the only child of a singer and lives in a small village in Behat near Gwalior . He was the only child of his parents. His father was a singer named Mukandan Misra. He is quite a naughty child but equally talented and wise. 

As a child, he spent a lot of time playing in the forest and imitating the sounds of birds and animals. Swami Haridas recognized his talent and assured his father that he could make Tansen a great singer. Tansen's father agreed to this. Thus, Tansen left his parents and lived with Swami Haridas for eleven years and became a good singer. 

Unfortunately, Tansen's parents died at this time. Tansen decides to live with a pious man named Mohammad Ghaus to fulfill his father's last wish. After some time Tansen married Hussaini and they had five children. Tansen's family members had a good musical background.

When Akbar noticed Tansen's talent, he appointed him to his court. Although this paved the way for a strong musical bond between Tansen and Akbar, Tansen's fellow courtiers were envious on him. They plotted to kill him by making him sing Raga Deepam.

After some time a thought came to Tansen's mind. To balance the warming effect of Raag Deepam, he made his daughter and her friend practice singing Raag Megh.

The nature of these two Ragas is, Raga Deepak will create a warm atmosphere and burn the singer to ashes; While raga creates cloud rain. While singing Raga Deepak on the appointed day, Tansen survived but fell ill. 

He recovered after some time. Akbar also punished the enemies of Tansen. He served in Akbar's court from 1585 until his death. His tomb in Gwalior is still a place of pilgrimage for musicians.

Tansen became even more popular for his music. He had excelled in talent as well as knowledge. The emperor punished the courtiers who had devised the plan and honored Tansen by keeping him in his court until the day of the great musician's death in 1585. Tansen's tomb in Gwalior remains a place of importance even today.
