THE OLD-CLOCK SHOP SUMMERY
It was Christmas Eve. The shopkeepers were going home. However, the lights were still on in the old clock shop. Its owner, Ray, was an old deaf man. After finishing work, Ray got up and was going to the back room when the front door opened.
There were two men: one was in his twenties, and the other was about fifty. The younger man stood at the door while the older one approached Ray. The latter looked rude, and his eyes suggested they were there to steal.
Hiding his fear, Ray pushed his notepad and a pencil onto the counter to communicate with his visitor. Then he explained to the man that he was deaf. Meanwhile, Ray takes a closer look at the man and realizes he is carrying a gun in his right coat pocket.
Although Ray knew the intention behind the men's visit, he wrote a message pointing to the 'Debt Board'. He asked whether the man had come to take back his watch or to see the watch he had promised.
Although Ray was not a moneylender, he lent interest-free money to the needy. The man soon felt at ease. He looked at his wristwatch and asked him how much it cost. Ray gave him a fifty dollar note, although the watch had no specific value. Meanwhile, the man's unfriendly eyes became grateful, feeling pity and compassion. He promises Ray that he will return to pay him back.
As the story ended, all the clocks and watches struck 12. The music of the clocks fills the shop with hope, and the three men feel the timeless message of Christmas: 'Peace on earth, goodwill towards all'.
